On 8 December 2014, USAID’s Justice for All (JFA) program organized a courtyard meeting in Shimuljuri village of Lohanipara Union under Badarganj Upazila of Rangpur District. The meeting, facilitated by JFA partner the Association for Integrated Development-Comilla, was attended by the District Legal Aid Officer (DLAO), Ms. Jannatun Lilifa Akter Jahan, and more than 40 representatives from the local indigenous community. The DLAO explained the main features of government legal aid to participants and encouraged them to take advantage of this service if and when they come in contact with the law. Participants want to know how and from where they have opportunities to get legal remedies without expenses. They also asked about the nature of cases in which they can get government legal aid. JFA partner the Association for Integrated Development-Comilla distributed information leaflets to ensure participants have the address and hotline number of the legal aid office.
